On Friday, June 9th, we had our final meeting of the Spring Term. In this blog post, I'll be highlighting the wonderful showcases our club community had presented, our guest speaker, and a little sneak peak of next term's (Fall 2023) plans!

Gesture Project Showcase
To start our meeting, the Gesture project team showcased their project by talking in-depth about the technology used, challenges they faced, and live demonstration. Here's a peek at their system architecture and photo from the meeting:
Portfolio Site Showcase
After, we completed our term-long portfolio site contest with a final recap and demonstration of the various sites being made. Thank you to all of those that presented! Your hard work throughout the term is greatly appreciated!

Voting
We've made a voting form for you to pick your favorite portfolio sites.
The top 2 winners ($150 and $100, respectively) will be selected from us officers, but we will also have a 3rd place winner for $50 that will be selected by you all!

The voting will close on Sunday at 6pm. After which we will announce the results for the top two portfolio sites on the leaderboard and the People's Choice for 3rd place (using the highest voted website that is not already one of the top two winners on the leaderboard).
The prizes will be:
1st place - $150
2nd place - $100
3rd place - $50
Special Event - Guest Speaker
Today we had the honor of welcoming one of the first Guest Speakers in App Development Club history, Mr. Jack Herrington! Mr. Herrington is a highly accomplished principal frontend engineer and YouTube content creator! https://www.youtube.com/@jherr

Mr. Herrington talked about a wide breath of topics, including but no limited to:
His journey from junior to principal engineer
How to ask great questions and further your career
The origin story of his YouTube community name "The Blue Collar Coder"
How the web development tech is changing and its future
Why he started creating frontend content
His thoughts on the recent A.I push from around the tech industry
His talk was highly motivating, insightful, and relevant with the way the current landscape of both the A.I and Web industries. We're sending a huge thanks to him for traveling down to Corvallis from Portland for this event!
Conclusion
To conclude, we want to send a special thank you to everyone who participated this term in our projects and contributed to making this club an amazing community.
Now, for next term's plans! The new officer team is looking to roll into Fall 2023 with this current momentum we've captured! While not 100% finalized, we plan on having another guest speaker, attending a tech conference as a club, and working on a whole new project!
