We're Back!
This Wednesday, (Bexell Hall 207 & Zoom - October 4th, 2023) our team here at the App Development Club held the first meeting of the academic year! It was fantastic seeing so many new and familiar faces, each just as excited about practicing App Development as our community!
Quick reminder, don't forget to register as an official member of the club through IdealLogic
and join our Discord community!
This is how we get funding to continue serving pizza, pay for apps we create as a club, give away prizes, and take club trips!
During the meeting, we enjoyed 7 boxes of Domino's pizza, met our leadership team for the next few terms, took a quick look at the "Past, present, and, future" of the App Development Club, and finally, enjoyed a few games to break the ice and celebrate the new school year!
The entire meeting is available on YouTube, here:
With that said, we were impressed by the overwhelming support for the AI Chat Bot as the term project; with over 71% of the responses voting it as a project selection for term!
The Project
More details will be revealed over the next few weeks, however, to get us all started:
The project will be a full-stack LLM-based chat bot which will take queries from end users and formulate a response; with specialization on informed responses for Oregon State University course data (TBD). By full-stack, we're expecting the project to touch every end of the development stack.
From a client frontend--in any of the frontend frameworks to send personalized text to the bot, to a web-server backend--possibly utilizing OpenAI, which could serve as the Large Language Model (LLM) to train and craft a bot; this will be satisfying project to introduce not only our novice app developers, but also our more intermediate to advanced developers as well.
Could you imagine a ChatGPT-esque experience that could plan out your entire computer science degree at Oregon State University? Possibly, tell you what each course you're scheduled to take is "like"; descriptions, due dates, grading, and all?
We're super excited about this project, and hope you are too. To conclude, don't forget to set your calendars! We'll be meeting next week at the same time and place: 6pm - 7pm at Bexell Hall 207 & Zoom on October 11th, 2023.
Until then, have a great week! 😁
